About 800 people, young Europeans from 16 countries were guests of the Centre for Dialogue and Prayer in Oświęcim/Auschwitz. They came to Poland as part of their Global Friendship ToLive Together in Peace conference. In Kraków they met with Mrs. Lidia Skibicka-Maksymowicz, a survivor of Auschwitz-Birkenau. They also visited the former Nazi German Concentration and Death Camp Auschwitz-Birkenau where they laid wreaths at the monument to the victims as a sign of their opposition to all forms of racism and violence. The group was accompanied by the President of the Community of Sant’Egidio, Marco Impagliazzo, professor of contemporary history.
The Youth for Peace movement is a global initiative of the Catholic community of Sant’Egidio. It is also present in Poland in Poznań, Warsaw and Chojna. It has a membership of 65,000 people from 73 countries from around the world, with one goal in mind – supporting others especially the poor, the homeless, the migrant and refugee, anyone who is vulnerable regardless of origin, color or religion.
