In Order to Comprehend the Incomprehensible and to Never Forget! A Study Trip to Auschwitz and Old Jewish Krakow.
Since 1999 Norbert Grümme travels once every year to Auschwitz, not as an interested historian, but as a teacher, who wants to experience Auschwitz with Polish and German students in the context of a student exchange.
In 2012 the history teachers from the “Städtischen Hansa Gymnasium Köln”, a German high school, decided to organize a one-week study trip to Auschwitz and Krakow. Once a year a group of 30 students between 15 and 17 years get the possibility to take part.
In 2015 during their four days in Oswiecim they will deal very closely with the camp complex of Auschwitz-Birkenau and discuss the different facets of “Auschwitz” in different ways. The guided tours through Auschwitz will be intensified by supplementary presentations from the students. The emphasis here is especially the question about the fate of individuals – victims and perpetrators.
