We extend a warm welcome to faculty and students on their first visit to Auschwitz and the Centre for Dialogue and Prayer. Founded in 1853, St. Francis Xavier University has a long and proud tradition as one of Canada’s oldest universities. During the first half of the 19th century, close to a million farmers, labourers and tradesmen came from the British Isles to the shores of Nova Scotia. Today St Francis Xavier University is a primarily undergraduate University bringing together students from across Canada and from around the world. In 1996 the university implemented Canada’s first Service Learning program, which provided opportunities for international learning. This 2018 student group visit to Auschwitz is an initiative of the Service Learning department of the university. The students will have a study visit in Auschwitz-Birkenau, service work and workshop in the Museum, and lecture in the Centre for Dialogue and Prayer.
