Visit to Auschwitz-Birkenau Memorial and Museum “Against Forgetting”
From 1st to 6th of September, 14 students between 14 and 16 years will make a voluntary journey to Auschwitz-Birkenau Memorial and Museum.
A lot of time will be given to preparation. The participants will get information about Auschwitz through films and also information about their visit and programme. A visit to KL Buchenwald is also planned.
On site they will have guided tours through Auschwitz 1 and Auschwitz-Birkenau, a meeting with a witness of history, a lecture in Auschwitz Memorial Museum and the possibility to explore different National exhibitions in Auschwitz by themselves.
Furthermore, they will get to know Poland and its inhabitants. The aim is to break down prejudices and to learn about Polish culture. For this reason they will have a city tour through Oświęcim, a meeting with students from their Polish twin school “Zespół Szkół Publicznych w Jastrzębi”, as well as a daytrip to Krakow.
The students will share their experiences when they return to their school. For this reason they will work on different tasks in groups. Their tasks might be writing a diary, song or a poem, holding a speech or making a poster.
The aim of this Memorial visit is to communicate knowledge and to preserve the memory of the victims of the National Socialistic system so that the students can deal with this topic in a responsible way.
