Study Tour to Places of Memory “Between Weimar and Auschwitz”
Since 1999 Norbert Grümme travels once every year to Auschwitz, not as an interested historian, but as a teacher, who wants to experience Auschwitz with Polish and German students in the context of a student exchange.
In 2012 the history teachers from the “Municipal Hansa – Gymnasium Cologne”, a German high school, decided to organize a one-week study trip to Auschwitz and Krakow. Once a year a group of 30 students between 15 and 17 years get the possibility to take part.
In 2016 during their four days in Oswiecim they will deal very closely with the camp complex of Auschwitz-Birkenau and discuss the different facets of “Auschwitz” in different ways. The guided tours through Auschwitz will be intensified by supplementary presentations from the students. The emphasis here is especially on the question about the individual fates of victims and perpetrators.
