„A trip of Meeting and Against Forgetting“

22 people will take part in a study trip to Auschwitz Birkenau.

“The demand that Auschwitz will never happen again is the very first in education” -Theodor W. Adorno

Racism, xenophobia, antisemitism and intolerance are again gaining importance in parts of our society. Journeys to Memorial sites of National-Socialist crimes, and meetings with witnesses can prevent forgetting. This study trip should offer the possibility to enter into conversation with each other. The participants create a space to share from own experiences. The trip is supported by Volker Häberlein and Kathrin Etzel.

Mr. Häberlein worked as a Social-worker in the “Evangelical Society/ Gesellschaft” of Stuttgart, then as a department head of the services for young people. He organized many journeys to Auschwitz with more than 700 participants of different ages. He published his experiences in a small book with the title “Reisen nach Auschwitz” (2014), in which former participants contributed poems, letters, texts and photographs.
