"Game of horror". Music theatre project about The Auschwitz Women's Orchestra.
One hundred and forty students of the Evangelical School Community Erzgebirge Annaberg-Buchholz will commemorate the 75th anniversary of the liberation of the German Nazi concentration and extermination camp Auschwitz, January 2020, by presenting a musical theatre project centred around the women's orchestra in this inhuman place.

The theatre project uses the means of the theatre to show a piece of the cultural history of Germany and Europe; it remembers and honours those who perished and died. This specially founded theatre group of the Evangelical School Community will have a challenging musical task with such a weighty and difficult theme. The orchestral part will be played live on stage. Crowd scenes, sound and musical commentary are arranged by the EGE Youth Choir. The integrated orchestral and choral text is based on the actual repertoire of the women's orchestra.

Such a project has a high relevance, especially in the region in and near Erzgebirge, where xenophobia and intolerance have spread further into the thinking and lifestyle of many more people than is the case in other parts of Germany. Standing up for humanity, conveying a positive worldview and a more confident outlook seems to be the order of the day. Viewing the depths of one's own history, which the theatre project "Playing for Time" offers, turns it into a mirror on the great possibilities of our lives in democratic freedom. The music theatre project of the Protestant School Community Erzgebirge gives the word Memorial culture a completely new and many-layered sound.
